Biography
I am currently a researcher and analyst at United Way of the Columbia-Willamette where I work to collect public feedback on non-profit programs around education, housing, civic engagement, and community reslience. Prior to working at United Way, I worked as a research advisor at Education Northwest, an education research and evaluation firm based in Portland, and prior to that I was a statistician at the Colorado Department of Education. My research and evalaution experience will helpful on the Charter Review Commission because I have experience gathering, analyzing, and assessing public feedback through things like surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
In 2021, I served on the Clark County Redistricting Committee. I learned a lot about the county and its government through that process. That experience is what motivated me to run for this position and I think showed me what made some aspects of the charter work and which parts didn’t work (like the original redistricting committee language).
I have a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado Boulder and while I was there I taught courses on American politics and state and local politics. While teaching these topics I often covered the values that are the basis for the American Political system like seperation of powers, representation of the public, the rule of law, federalism, and democratic accountability. My experience teaching this and understanding of poltical science concepts will help focus my work on the commission in the proper role of county government, the limitations of county government, and the values our government should express.
I am a relatively new Clark County resident moving to the area in 2018. I grew up in Reno, Nevada and have lived in Bellingham, Washington, and Boulder, Colorado for college and graduate school prior to moving to Clark County to live near my wife’s family.
